Peles Castle

Firstly, we will set off for Sinaia, where we are going to visit the Peleş Castle, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful ones in Europe, a masterpiece of the German Neo-Renaissance architecture, commissioned by the first king of Romania – Carol I, member of the Hohenzollern – Sigmaringen family, in the 19th century. Its shape and lines are reminders of the classical German renaissance palaces, which combine together tall towers, balconies, galleries and columns, to form a construction containing a wide range of European architectural elements.

It is surrounded by gardens and several stone sculptures, some of them done by the sculptor Romanelli.

We are also going to visit the Sinaia Monastery, which was built in 1695 during the reign of Mihail Cantacuzino, based on the architecture of St. Catalina’s in Sinai.

We shall continue our journey to Bran, across the Meridionali Carpathians, to visit the famous Castle of Dracula from the 14th century, which houses a very interesting museum of history and feudal art.

We will then turn to Brașov, the most renowned tourist spot of Romania, the place where the former borders of the three historic Romanian provinces used to be: Wallachia, Moldova and Transylvania.

We will have a typical romanian lunch at the famous restaurant “Şura Dacilor”(ro: Dacian’s Barn) in Poiana Braşov, the largest ski resort in Romania, where you can feast on fresh venison (wild boar, deer and bear). After that, a short visit of Brașov, which includes going to the Council Square (ro: Piaţa Sfatului) and the Black Church (ro: Biserica Neagră) (centuries 14-15), the largest gothic building in Romania. Then, a walk on the esplanade in the charming medieval part of town and then the return to Bucharest.
